When we are hungry, we get something to eat. When we are thirsty, we get something to drink. This is to satisfy our physical needs, but these physical things cannot satisfy our soul. True soul-satisfying fulfillment can only come from God.
1 Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David (Isaiah 55:1-3).

We must realize that only God the Father and Jesus the Messiah can satisfy our souls. Only from God does living waters flow that can completely quench our “thirst” (John 4:14; 7:37-38). Only those that hunger and thirst for righteousness will be completely filled (Matthew 5:6).
I am realizing the meaning of a fulfilled life is not just to accept the gift of salvation and eternal life and strive to live lives in obedience to God, but it is also to believe and trust God through everything. When we trust God and completely cast our cares on Him, He will give us peace (Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7). When we meditate on His blessings and all things that are good and right, we will have a heart of thanksgiving, and “the God of peace” will be with us (Philippians 4:8-9).
Paul points out the secret of contentment. He learned to be content with much and with little, and how he did it is boldly stated in Philippians 4:13. He knew without a doubt that no matter what, he could do “all things through Christ” who gave him strength. Christ is the same yesterday and today, so if He could strengthen Paul to do anything no matter the circumstances, He can do the same for us.
If we turn to God and trust Him, He will provide us with all our needs. He can also transform us so that the things we seek are life-giving, not a temporary reprieve from some physical need or want. He can also give us wisdom so that we seek the things He wants us to seek, and the understanding to overcome the worldly desires and selfishness.
We either believe God is always with us or we don’t. In what way are our lives showing our beliefs? We must commit ourselves completely to God, trust Him, and allow Him to set us free from all our fears so that our soul can be fully satisfied.
