“GOD WANTS ME TO HEAR HIM IN MY OWN LANGUAGE”

Christians in Ghana and across West Africa are desperate to know him.

Monica lives in Kpong, a farming community in Ghana. Her home is a mud hut with a roof made of grass and iron sheets. During one of her darker times, her parents tried to force her into a marriage. She felt like her life was in ruins.
She didn’t really know God, and she saw the Bible as “a book that is very difficult to get. It had very little impact on my life.”
Still, Christ was at work. Monica craved God’s Word and tried to read the Bible in English. But she had a hard time understanding it because it was not her heart language.
Thanks to the support of American Bible Society financial partners, we were able to supply Monica with her very first Bible in her heart language!
“I felt like God was talking to me directly in my own language,” Monica said after receiving her first Bible. She described it as the most valuable gift she has ever received. “As I can now understand the Word of God, it will draw me closer to Jesus since I will obey the Word without controversies. I see that God loves me so much that he wants me to hear him in my own language,” she said.
Her friends have noticed her commitment to God, and Monica is hopeful they’ll also experience a life-change through his Word. “It makes me feel that every person should be able to get a copy of the Bible.”
The support of American Bible Society financial partners helped provide Monica with her very first Bible in a newly translated version of her heart language. We are bringing the love of Jesus Christ to the men, women, and children of Ghana who are desperate to know him.
