Huge tunnels, ranging across the country of Norway, are being constructed. The tunnels will link passage that was, priorly, only traversed by ferry.
The ferry trips take so long, that one
680 mile journey, from Kristiansand to Trondheim, could take up to 21
hours due to the seven ferries that must be taken. Traveling the
distance in the new tunnels would only take 10 hours.
The project is set to cost $25 billion and be fully completed by 2035Currently, 1,150 traffic tunnels in use throughout Norway and 35 of them are submerged below water.
The “submerged floating bridges” are secured to pontoon structures and float 100 feet under the water. Each tube has two lanes for traffic.
